Eight nations.
One voice
in the carbon
economy.
A regional alliance of Southern African states advancing Article 6 of the Paris Agreement — unlocking climate finance, safeguarding environmental integrity, and accelerating nationally determined contributions across the region.
A coordinated position for the region.
Southern African countries have long engaged carbon markets one country at a time. The Alliance changes the geometry — a single, technically resourced platform that speaks for eight nations at once.
The Southern Africa Alliance on Carbon Markets and Climate Finance was formally established at Victoria Falls in March 2026 to strengthen regional coordination and technical capacity.
Supported by BMZ through GIZ's Article 6 Connect global programme, the Alliance is sister to existing regional bodies in West and East Africa.
Article 6 readiness
Building legal, institutional and technical infrastructure for cooperative approaches.
Climate finance access
Mapping and unlocking results-based finance and blended finance instruments.
Market integrity
Safeguarding environmental integrity across compliance and voluntary markets.
Eight nations, one region..
Each founding member maintains an independent country profile — policy, institutions, and Article 6 readiness.
