About the Alliance

A coordinated position for the region.

Southern African countries have long engaged carbon markets one country at a time. The Alliance changes the geometry — a single, technically resourced platform that speaks for eight nations at once.

The Southern Africa Alliance on Carbon Markets and Climate Finance was formally established at Victoria Falls in March 2026 to strengthen regional coordination and technical capacity.

Supported by BMZ through GIZ's Article 6 Connect global programme, the Alliance is sister to existing regional bodies in West and East Africa.
